Queen Elizabeth II peacefully died today afternoon at Balmoral in Britain. She has been reigning for 70 years, and to put into perspective how long that truly is, listen to this. She has ruled over many wars, 14 US presidents, and the decline of the vast Britain Empire. The 96 year old queen’s son, Charles, is now the new king. As soon as the news of the queen’s passing was announced, world leaders and others globally paid tributes. She was a very important person for Britain and for the world in general, and she gave many people hope and strength. Queen Elizabeth was one of the richest women in the world, due to her jewelry collection and her outfits. For the next 10 days, the UK will be in a period of mourning, and millions of people will be paying their respects to the queen. Her son, Prince Charles, will now become the new ruler.
What is the role of the monarch in Britain?
In the UK, the monarch has little or no political power, and they are mainly a symbol for the country. They do things like knighting people, appointing Prime Ministers, etc. The Parliament (the country’s government), mainly handles political duties.
My personal opinion:
My opinion is Britain will be in a time period of uncertainty for the near future, due to the country just getting a new PM, and the queen passing away. I sincerely hope that Britain as a country will be able to get through these challenging times.
