2021 Olympics in Tokyo will not allow families

The 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan will play their games without fans in the stands, reports say. The Japanese government announced that it would institute measures to counter COVID-19 surges in Tokyo. These measures will take effect next week and last the whole Olympics, which start on July 23rd and end on August 8th.

I personally think that there shouldn’t be an Olympics, as do many other people. Keep in mind that only 8% of Japan have gotten both doses of the vaccine, and less than 30% have even gotten the first dose. There have been protests to stop the Games. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said that Japan would “do everything we can to prevent the further spread of infections.” Dr. Shigeru Omi, a top government medical advisor, said Wednesday, “Infections are in their expansion phase and everyone in this country must firmly understand the seriousness of it.”

Multiple top athletes, including Steph Curry, said they wouldn’t participate in the Olympics. Tokyo’s seven-day COVID-case average had fallen in late May and early June. The Games are going to lose lots of money, because early ticket sales must be refunded. I wonder what will happen?
