4 astronauts onboard of SpaceX’s Dragon capsule have just returned to Earth. The capsule is named “Reliance”, and it landed in the Gulf of Mexico. The astronauts just came back from the ISS, and they spent 5 months there, which is the longest time ever for astronauts that went on a American spacecraft. Recently, new astronauts went to the ISS, on a Dragon capsule. The SpaceX mission control joked when the astronauts landed: “We welcome you back to planet Earth and thanks for flying SpaceX. For those of you enrolled in our frequent flyer program, you’ve earned 68 million miles on this voyage.”
The astronauts are from NASA, and they are named Mike Hopkins, Shannon Walker, Victor Glover, and the Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi. They reached the ISS last November, on a Falcon 9 rocket. This is the first time a American spacecraft has landed in water since 1968, and the second time ever that a space capsule has landed in the Gulf of Mexico. This is also the second time astronauts came back to earth on a Dragon capsule.
