Scientists are trying to resurrect the Woolly Mammoth

A genetics professor from Harvard University, George Church, and his company, Colossal, are trying to resurrect the woolly mammoth within 6 years. They just got $15 million dollars of funding, and with that they plan on resurrecting the mammoth. They are going to use DNA found from dead mammoths, and they will combine that with the DNA of an Asian elephant, which is the mammoth’s closest relative. The animals created from that merge, nicknamed “mammophant”, will look and act like a mammoth.

The woolly mammoth lived in the Ice Age, which was from 5 million years ago to about 4,000 years ago. They are arguably the most famous creature living in that time period. The mammoths were over 10 feet tall, and weighed as much as 15 tons. The company is facing some criticism about it’s plans from other people, though.
