People from both parties in both the Senate and the House are asking for answers from Facebook about how it affects teens’ mental health. A recent study found that Instagram, owned by Facebook, affects teen girls’ health in a negative way. Instagram is a platform that allows users to share photos and videos with other people. Facebook acquired (bought) it back in 2012 for $1 billion. 32% of teen girls using Instagram felt bad about their body after using Instagram, when they already were feeling bad about their body. Three senators asked Facebook to get rid of it’s plans to launch a kids version of Instagram, because they are advocates for kids’ privacy and health online.
