A Volcano erupted on Spain’s Canary Island

A volcano on Spain’s Canary Islands has been erupting for a while. The volcano is on the island of La Palma, and it’s been erupting around a week by now. The ash from the volcano disrupted flights on the weekend and closed the airport. Workers had to use umbrellas to shield themselves from falling ash, because there was lots of ash in the sky. La Palma has lots of Pristine beaches, and a lot of them are closed now. More than 500 buildings were buried and over 6,000 people were evacuated. This is Spain’s first eruption in over half a century! Even though the volcano’s intensity is lowering, people are still advised to stay inside because lava that is over 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit (1,000 degrees Celsius) could meet the Atlantic Ocean and give out toxic gases. So far, no deaths or serious injuries have been reported.
