The social media giant Facebook has had an outage since around noon today. Facebook owns other platforms and companies such as Whatsapp, Instagram, and the VR company Oculus, so all of those went down as well today. So far, the reason as to why the outage happened is unclear, but it is thought that there was a Domain Name system problem. This outage is one of Facebook’s worst in years. The outage made it impossible for users to download games or play with others. It is still possible to see old Whatsapp and Instagram content, but you cannot see new content or post new content. Facebook is already being investigated on whether Instagram is harmful for teen girls, so it’s been having a hard time the past few weeks. Facebook stock is down 5% today, and is down $55 in the past month. Facebook hit a $1 trillion market cap a few months ago, but its market value has dropped to around $900 billion since.
