Many emergency officials in California are trying to contain a huge oil spill that took place on the coast of Southern California – 120,000 gallons of oil to be exact. The spill is in the Pacific Ocean, and is threatening birds and marine life. Some of the oil has washed ashore, but there is still a lot in the oceans. This spill could affect birds and marine life for years. Sometimes the population usually recovers fast, but sometimes it takes a long time. For example, an oil spill in 2010 still has lasting effects today. Dead wildlife is already washing up, dead, according to officials. The oil spill was caused by a broken pipeline owned by an oil company called Amplify Energy. The pipeline was created in 1970’s and 80’s, and was going through inspection thoroughly, according to the company.
