The US is considering evacuating US citizens from Ukraine, since there is a potential threat of Russia invading Ukraine. The US still doesn’t know if Russia will invade, and this evacuation is a last resort thing. Airlines are still operating in Ukraine, and it’s western neighbors are open. Ukraine is not a NATO (North Atlantic Peace Treaty) member, but the White House thinks it is an important European ally. Russia has built up forces near the Ukraine-Russia border, but that border is hundreds of miles from Kyiv, which is the only city where the US has diplomatic presence in Ukraine. Also, if the US withdrew its citizens, it would show the world that the US’ decisions can be influenced by Russia. Biden is currently speaking with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the issue.
