The electric automaker Tesla is facing challenges in India. Tesla is a very popular automaker of EV’s (Electric vehicles), and it is growing more and more each year. Elon Musk, the co-founder and CEO of Tesla announced this when he was replying to a tweet on the social media platform Twitter. A user asked when Tesla will come to India, and Musk said they are working out challenges with the government. The challenge for Tesla to spread to India is that India has huge taxes on EV’s that are shipped into the country. For a vehicle under $40,000, there is a 60% tax rate, and for a vehicle above that, there is a 100% tax rate. India wants Tesla to build its vehicles inside of the country instead of importing it. Elon Musk said it will most likely build a factory in India, but only if they could successfully import vehicles first. India has the 5th biggest car market in the world, and they aim to make 65% of all cars sold in the country EV’s by 2030.
