The island country of Tonga in the Pacific experienced a huge volcanic eruption yesterday, and it was succeeded by a tsunami that flooded parts of the country. The height of the wave reached 2.7 feet in the capital, and there is no information yet about damage and deaths. People all around the South Pacific could hear the volcanic eruption, including people in places like New Zealand. The King of the country was evacuated, and many residents tried to get to higher ground. The US Pacific coast, Hawaii, Alaska, Fiji, and New Zealand all issued a tsunami advisory and/or warning. The UN (United Nations) and other countries are trying to help Tonga overcome the effects of the tsunami.
