Scottie Scheffler Wins the 2022 Masters

Scottie Scheffler won the 2022 Masters Tournament yesterday, winning his first major. Scheffler was the No.1 golfer in the world even before his win. He is the 2nd golfer to win 4 events in one season, including the Masters. He finished with a -10, beating out runner-up Rory McIlroy, who had -7. McIlroy had an 8-under 64, tying him for the lowest Sunday round in the history of the tournament. Scheffler had back-to-back birdies on holes 14-15, putting him in the lead by five. Even though he was confident the whole time, on the 18th green, Scheffler got nervous as he missed makeable 7-foot par and 5-foot bogey putts. But he made a 3-foot double bogey putt with fans chanting “Sco-ttie, Sco-ttie” to finish 1 under for the round, 10 under for the tournament, and with a green jacket.

Tiger Woods shocked golf by saying he will return to the sport after a horrific car crash in February 2021, where he suffered serious leg injuries. He had a six-over par, a 78, on Saturday, his worst score ever at the Masters, and did the same thing on Sunday to finish at 13 over for the tournament. Despite his disappointing performance, Woods did have a fighting spirit in his first tournament in over a year and a half. Woods confirmed he’ll play in the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews, Scotland in July.

Personally, I am happy for him, even though I will admit I just found out who he is. He is very much deserving of the green jacket as he worked hard for this moment, and he is a talented golfer. I would’ve liked to see Tiger Woods win the event, even though it didn’t seem like he had a chance. But Scheffler is No. 1 in the world for a reason. Kudos to him!
