Hertz will pay $168 million dollars to settle some lawsuits

The rental car company Hertz will pay $168 million dollars to settle 364 lawsuits. The lawsuits were saying that the company filed criminal reports against customers that did not return their vehicles on time. Hertz was facing these claims in February from customers that said they were wrongly arrested for auto theft. One example was when a Colorado man was in jail for 24 hours for stealing a Hertz rental car in Georgia, but he had never been there and never rented from Hertz. “As I have said since joining Hertz earlier this year, my intention is to lead a company that puts the customer first,” Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr said in a statement. “In resolving these claims, we are holding ourselves to that objective. While we will not always be perfect, the professionals at Hertz will continue to work every day to provide best-in-class service to the tens of millions of people we serve each year.”
