Electric school buses are very rare in the US currently, but that is likely to change in the next decade, as more of the roughly 480,000 school buses in the US are likely to become battery powered. Some other reasons buses might become electric are “fast-maturing electric-vehicle technology – and the new incentives available under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act.” Electric buses are much better for the environment, and they are much cheaper to maintain than internal-combustion buses. The downside is that these buses are very expensive – it can be 3 to 4 times as much as the diesel powered buses.
