Job openings suddenly jumped to 11.01 million in December, above 10.44 million openings in November, and above analysts estimates of 10.25 million. This number of openings is the highest since July. The area in which job openings were up the most was food serves, which was up 409,000. Some other areas that increased the most were retail trade and construction, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics data report. Apparently, there were 1.9 jobs available per person looking for a job.
