Facebook is getting sued by multiple people

Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, is getting sued by 42 different attorney generals that claim the 2 social media platforms are addictive and aimed at kids. These lawsuits show the support in preventing kids/teens from online harm. Each state has their own attorney general, and these lawsuits are coming from 33 different states. The remaining 9 attorney general’s are filing the lawsuit in their own state. Some of the addictive features the attorney general’s are saying include: specific designs of its algorithms, “infinite” scroll, and notifications. The lawsuit also claims that Meta was collecting data on kids under 13 years without parental consent, which is illegal. The company is no stranger to getting sued like this, as in 2020, they got sued by 48 separate states and territories for antitrust lawsuits, which basically attempts to limit a company’s power.
