Iceland has been hit by many earthquakes

Starting Feb. 24, Iceland has been hit by many earthquakes. The first one was an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7, and has been followed by many more. Surprisingly, it has been hit with 18,000 earthquakes over the course of a week. Many people in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, are worried about a volcano eruption.

Iceland is one of the countries that is used to earthquakes. Some other areas that are used to earthquakes are Southern California, Indonesia, and parts of China. Scientists say that ever since December of 2019, seismic activity has been increasing in Iceland. Seismic activity is the activity of earthquakes.

Iceland has around 30 active volcanoes, but scientists have said that an eruption in Reykjavik will not affect people who are living there. One possible reason some residents are worrying is because of a bad volcanic eruption in 2010.
