A storm chasing airplane found out that lighting had a lot of air cleaning chemicals called oxidants. Lightning has been found to have nitric oxide. Oxidants clean the air by reacting to contaminants like methane to make them more stickier. This allows the contaminants to rain out of the atmosphere more easily. About 1,800 lightning storms are happening this exact moment.
