The Florida governor signed a new law. His name is Ron DeSantis, and he is a Republican. The new law states that Social Media companies are not allowed to ban political candidates from their site. An example of social media blocking a political candidate recently is when the January 6th capital riot happened. Youtube, Twitter, and Facebook banned Trump shortly after the event.
The companies can still temporarily ban a candidate for up to 14 days, and they can remove posts that violate its terms of service. If the company is found to violate this law, it can be fined up to $250,000 a day for banning statewide candidates, and $25,000 for other candidates. This law is facing some backlash, though. The First Amendment in the Bill of Rights says that the government cannot control speech on private websites.
