A famous author has died recently. He is none other than Eric Carle, the author of the Very Hungry Caterpillar picture book. He was 91 at the time of his death, and he died of kidney failure. Today, many people paid their respects and tribute to him. Some other books that he wrote included Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, Do You Want to Be My Friend? and From Head to Toe. The Very Hungry Caterpillar was a huge hit when it was published in 1969. Carle was born in New York, and his family moved to Germany in the mid-1930’s. That was the time when WWII was about to start. His father was forced to serve in the German army, and was held a Russian prisoner for 8 years. Carle was forced to dig trenches at age 15. I think a valuable lesson to take from him is to persevere.
