A swarm of cicadas took over a charter plane for the White House press, which was supposed to go ahead of Joe Biden’s first trip abroad. The trip was scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, 9 PM EST, but it was delayed until 3 AM the next day. A new plane had to be brought to the airport because the cicadas took over the auxiliary power unit (APU). The APU is responsible for sending electrical power to the cabin and other systems onboard. Also, earlier today, Biden left for England. Cicadas are bugs that come out of the ground every 17 years, and they came out this year. They will come out of the ground, shed their exoskeletons, and then fly around trying to look for a mate. They live for around 4 – 6 weeks, then they die off. This year, they will die off in late June and early July.
