France is sending another Statue of Liberty – nicknamed “little sister” – to the US. This new statue has been in a French museum since 2011, and won’t be as big as the original. It is 1/16th of the current Statue of Liberty standing in New York – it is 10 feet tall, and 450 kilograms. This replica statue looks like the original:

It has the US’s Date of Independence in Roman Numerals on a tablet

It has shackles and broken chains on one foot, representing the abolition of slavery in the US.
The original statue was sent to New York in 1886, which was meant to strengthen the relationship between the French and the US. The statue will arrive in New York on July 1st. It will then go to Washington DC, where it will stay on display for 10 years.
