China activated the world’s second biggest hydropower dam

Two of the units of the world’s second biggest hydropower dam have been activated in China. The dam, called the Baihetan Dam, is located on the Jinsha river, a part of the Yangtze. This dam has 16 units, each able to generate 1 million kilowatts each. This gives it a 16 million capacity, which is 6 million kilowatts less than the biggest dam in the world, named the Three Gorges Dam, which is also located on the Yangtze river.

This announcement comes right before the 100th anniversary of the Chinese communist party, which was founded in 1921. After this new dam is fully operational, China should be able to get rid of using 20 million tons of coal each year.
