The 2021 Stanley Cup Finals have arrived. It has been a season like no other. First, let’s take a look at who the two teams that will play for the Stanley Cup are.
Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning are looking to become the first repeat champion since the Pittsburgh Penguins did it in 2016 and 2017. They need Steven Stamkos and Brayden Point to step up for them. Andre Vasilevskiy also needs to step up for them, against the………
Montreal Canadiens
It baffles me how Montreal got here. GM Marc Bergevin was in danger of losing his job and they were down 3 games to 1 against the Toronto Maple Leafs in round 1. But somehow, some way, they came back to win the series , swept the Winnipeg Jets in round 2, and then took down the Vegas Golden Knights in 6 games in the semifinals.
Both teams have one of the best goalies in the league. Canadiens goalie Carey Price has been playing for a long time and he’s only getting better. He is probably going into the Hall of Fame when he retires. And Lightning goaltender Andre Vasilevskiy won the Vezina Trophy for best goalie 2 years ago and was a finalist this year. I don’t see Game 1 being a shootout, but here is my prediction…….
Prediction: Lightning in 5
The Lightning have the better team, really. Their offense was really explosive in the past 3 rounds and Vasilevskiy showed people why he’s the best goalie in the game. I think they will become back-to-back champions. This will make up for 2019 against Columbus when they won the President’s Trophy (for most points in the league) and got swept in round 1.
