Lightning defeat Montreal Canadiens to win 2021 Stanley Cup Finals

The Tampa Bay Lightning won the 2021 Stanley Cup on Wednesday, defeating the Montreal Canadiens in 5 games. This was their second straight Stanley Cup, their third Cup in franchise history, and the second sports championship for Tampa this year (the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV). The player that scored the only goal in Game 5 was Tampa Bay rookie Ross Colton. It was assisted by Ryan McDonagh and David Savard.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman presented the Stanley Cup to the Bolts and Conn Smythe Trophy for most valuable player of the postseason to Lightning  goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy. He is one of the best goalies in the NHL, having won the Vezina Trophy in 2018-19.

Curious Kids News correctly predicted that the Lightning would win the Stanley Cup and that it would go 5 games. The Lightning were clear favorites all across the world, since the Canadiens were not a good team in the regular season.

Montreal was also down 3 games to 1 in the first round (aka division semifinals) to the Toronto Maple Leafs, but they found a way to come back. They also swept the Winnipeg Jets in the division finals and took down the Vegas Golden Knights, who tied for the most points in the league, in the Stanley Cup semifinals. They might not have won it all, but they shocked a lot of people and may be contenders next year.  We will see what next season has in store!
