A man got a heart implant from a pig

A man with a heart disease got a heart implant from a genetically modified pig. His disease was life threatening, and this man’s life was saved because of this procedure. He has already survived for 3 days with the pig heart inside of him. He is the first person to agree to go through this experimental surgery, even though it was risky, since that was his last shot of staying alive. This man’s name is Dave Bennett, and he is 57 years old. This took 9 hours, and the pig was specially modified just for this purpose. The patient is still on a machine that helps his body pump blood, but doctors are slowly going to remove him from the machine. If this procedure ends up working, then many more patients waiting for a transplant will be able to get one. Other organs such as kidneys or lungs could also be transplanted in the future from pigs. There are over 100,000 people on waitlists for organ transplants, and around 6,000 of them die each year, waiting for an organ to be available for them. Some people oppose this though, since it is wrong to hurt pigs to help humans.
