The previous hottest chili pepper in the world was the Carolina Reaper, but that is no longer true. Now, a new pepper called Pepper X, created by pepper expert Ed Currie, owns that title. Currie spent 10 years working on this, and this pepper emits an “immediate and brutal heat.” This pepper has a rating of 2,693,000 Scoville Heat Units, and for comparison, the Carolina Pepper’s rating is 1.64 million on average, and a normal jalapeno has a rating of 3,000-8,000. Currie said that when he ate this pepper, he felt the heat for 3 ½ hours, and had cramps and pain for about an hour.
