In Mali, a woman gave birth to 9 babies. She was actually expected to give birth to 7 babies, and so this was a surprise. Her name is Halima Cisse, and she gave birth to 4 boys and 5 girls. Since Mali is one of the world’s poorest countries, it’s hospitals aren’t able to handle multiple-birth situations like this. That is why Halima Cisse was sent to Morocco for birth, by the Malian doctors under government orders. She gave birth at the private Ain Borja clinic in Casablanca, Morocco, and she had bleeding and needed a blood transfusion after the birth. The babies are 1.1 to 2.2 pounds, and Cisse is in stable condition. This 9 baby birth might break the world record for having the most babies born at once.
The Guinness Book of World Records said they are still verifying the birth. Currently, the world record is held at 8 births by a American woman named Nadya Suleman, who set the record in 2009. It is risky to have many children at once, and the more children a mother gets at once, the more risks there are. The babies are also at risk of developing cerebral palsy, lung disorders, bleeding in the brain and more.
