An Apollo 11 astronaut has died of cancer. He died at age 90, and his name is Michael Collins. He was born in Italy. Michael’s family shared this news on Wednesday, April 28. Apollo 11 is one of the many NASA missions to the moon. Buzz Aldrin was also another member of the Apollo 11 mission, and he shared his sadness at this event.
Michael Collins is the third astronaut ever to do a spacewalk. Collins first became a student at the US Air Force Test Pilot School, and then graduated when he was 22. He was a fighter pilot for four years, then he became an astronaut. He had Gemini 10 as his first mission, and Apollo 11 was his second one.
