Angels release Albert Pujols

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim released future Hall of Fame first baseman Albert Pujols. This news broke on May 6th, 2021. Pujols played 9 seasons with the Angels. He was in the final year of his 10-year, $253 million contract, which he signed in 2011.  Before that he played 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he won the World Series in 2006 and 2011 (right before he left for Los Angeles.) His final hit in Anaheim was the 3,253rd hit of his career, which moved him to 13th on MLB’s all-time hits list. Pujols was drafted in the 13th round of the 1999 MLB draft by the Cardinals. He was in the middle of a season in which he had an awful .198 batting average. MLB.com says that the Chicago White Sox could sign Pujols.
If he winds up retiring, he can spend more time with his wife Deidre and 5 children. He hit 667 home runs, 2,112 runs batted in, 3,253 hits and played 2,883 games over his 21-year career. He won National League Rookie of the Year in 2001, NL Most Valuable Player in 2005, 2008 and 2009 and is a 10-time All-Star. He has had an incredible career.
