China and the US agreed to fight climate change

China and the US have agreed to fight climate change urgently together. In four days, there will be a virtual meeting about the climate crisis. A US representative, John Kerry, and a Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, reached the agreement together. China and the US are the world’s 1st and 2nd biggest carbon emitters, respectively. China also uses the most coal in the world, so Kerry and Chinese officials talked a lot about global energy transition. Even though these agreements were reached, China said it will most likely not make any new “pledges” in the virtual meeting. It has also said it is really difficult to meet goals, because of their huge population. Towards the beginning of his presidency, Biden rejoined the Paris agreement, which Trump left in his term. China said it will be Carbon-neutral by 2060, and the US said it will be fully emissions free by 2050. It has also said that it will get all of its power from renewable sources within 14 years.
