After a slow start in December, the vaccine progress in the US has picked up pace and going well. The country is now administering 1.3MM doses each day. This is up from about 1MM earlier in January. The new president, Biden, is now aiming to increase the number of doses to 1.5MM per day.
In order to achieve this goal, the government is opening a number of mass vaccination centers in the urban areas. Eg: in New York, they are opening the center in Yankee’s stadium. In addition, pharmacies like CVS, Walmart, Walgreen will soon begin to vaccine people.
Mind you, each person will need to receive 2 vaccine doses of either Pfizer of Moderna. With a US population of 300-350MM, that will mean about 600-700MM vaccines will need to be given in total. So the country has still a long way to go before vaccinating everyone.
In the meantime, additional vaccine companies are releasing their version of Covid-19 vaccine. For example, Johnson and Johnson is now seeking government approval for their vaccine. This vaccine can be given just once instead of two doses for Pfizer of Moderna. If government approved this Johnson and Johnson vaccine, people can receive the dosage faster and the country can be vaccinated faster.
