CVS and Walgreens, two of the biggest pharmacies in the US, have agreed to pay more than $10 billion dollars to resolve thousands of lawsuits. The lawsuits are about the companies’ roles in the opioid crisis, as they are facing claims that they helped increase the abuse of these addictive painkillers. The pharmacies have denied they did anything wrong, but they still have lost some legal battles. It is now up to Local governments, Native American tribes, and others behind the 3,000+ lawsuits to decide if they want to accept the settlement.
