Elon Musk, the richest man in the world and the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has been chosen to be Time’s Person of the Year. Time is a magazine, and it chooses different people for different categories each year. Time said they chose him since “He is reshaping life on Earth and possibly life off Earth, as well”. They also said “Person of the Year is a marker of influence, and few individuals have had more influence than Musk on life on Earth, and potentially life off Earth too.” SpaceX is Elon Musk’s space company, and is one of the biggest private companies in the world. It made history recently by sending a crew of only civilians into space. They also have a contract with NASA to build lunar landing systems that could take astronauts to the moon by 2024.
Some other winners in other categories include: Simone Biles as athlete of the year, and Olivia Rodrigo as entertainer of the year. Time also named 4 scientists: Katalin Kariko, Barney S. Graham, Kizzmekia Corbett and Drew Weissman, who all worked to develop the covid vaccines. Last year, Time named Pres. Biden and VP Kamala Harris as the Person of the Year, and the year before that it chose Greta Thunburg, who was 16 at the time and is a climate change activist from Sweden. Time has been choosing a Person of the Year for over a century.
