Elon Musk, CEO and cofounder of Tesla, is being held on trial. He is being held on trial for forcing Tesla to buy the struggling solar power company SolarCity in 2016 – which saved the company and his own investment from bankruptcy. This is unusual, because Musk only owned 22% of the company at that time, and so he was not a majority shareholder. The people accusing Musk in the trial want him to repay Tesla the $2.6 billion that was spent for SolarCity in 2016. Musk said in the trial that Tesla’s stock is now $652 per share, up from $37 in 2016, when the deal closed.
