Google and Facebook have been fined

France has fined Facebook and Google, since both companies have a complicated system of opting out of cookies. Cookies are basically bits of information to identify someone when they go on a website. Both companies together have been fined 210 million pounds, with google getting fined 150 million and Facebook being fined 60 million. For both companies, if someone visits their website, they only need to do 1 click to opt into cookies, but they need to do multiple clicks to opt out of cookies. That is illegal in France. People that use both websites have complained to France already. Google makes it complicated so users are more likely to press accept, and Facebook makes it look like there is no way to decline it. Google and Facebook are not clear yet on how they will change.
