Hideki Matsuyama won Masters tournament

Hideki Matsuyama won the 2021 and 85th edition of the Masters on Sunday April 11th, becoming the first Asian to win the green jacket and the first Japanese man to win a major golf tournament. He beat American Will Zalatoris by 1 stroke. Matsuyama will be a hero in golf-loving Japan, where there have been many talented golfers that keep coming up short. He also joins a group of current Japanese sports icons (Australian Open winner Naomi Osaka and Los Angeles Angels two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani).

Although Zalatoris fell short, he made a big introduction to the golf world. The then- unheralded 24-year-old became just the 11th player to be runner-up in his Masters debut. Phil Mickelson finished 21st in the event. The 50-year-old golf legend had one of his worst performances ever in the tournament. But he’s not slowing down. Matsuyama dominated early on, but started to slip down the stretch. He began the 4th round leading by 4 strokes, then went 1-over-par on Sunday to finish the tournament at 10 under par.

That’s all I have for my first golf article! I may not be the biggest golf fan in the world, but I think I informed you a lot.
