In Oregon, the Bootleg fire is so big that it is creating its own weather. If you didn’t know yet, Oregon and many other western states in the US are being hit by extreme wildfires, which are fueled by hot air and dry weather. The Bootleg fire has burned 537 square miles, which is bigger than Los Angeles. It is one of the eight big fires in Oregon, and one of eighty fires across 13 states.
There are almost 3.5 million people on red flag warnings, and almost 650,000 are on a heat advisory. For the next 48 hours, temperatures in the area will be around 10 degrees higher than normal. The heat from the Bootleg fire is making Pyrocumulus clouds form, which are created when the heat makes the air rise. These clouds become thunderstorms, and they have lightning and strong winds.
