The country Indonesia is changing its capital. Indonesia is located near Asia and Australia, and is composed of many islands. The country’s parliament has approved of the change. The capital is being moved from Jakarta to Kalimantan, which is being named Nusantara. Jakarta is rapidly sinking into the ocean, and it is very congested, or full of people. Indonesia was in need of a new capital, so its House of Representatives passed the bill. Jakarta is on swamp ground, so it gets flooded a lot, and it is sinking very fast, since groundwater is being extracted too much from the island. It has over 10 million people residing on the island. The country’s parliament is made of 9 fractions, and 8 fractions approved the bill, with 1 rejecting it. This new capital is mainly all forest right now, and Indonesia is making 5 stages to develop the land. The development is expected to start later this year, and is expected to last until 2045. The project is expected to cost $32 billion.
