Italy bans big cruise ships from going into Venice. Venice is a “floating city” meaning it has small “islands” floating near each other. There are no roads, and all transport is by boat. The city is located in Italy. The reason Italy is banning large cruise ships is that they create big waves that damage the city’s foundation. This new ban affects ships longer than 180 meters or higher than 35 meters. Many people that protested for cruise ships to be banned are happy right now. There are also some people that don’t like this new ban because they think this will make people lose jobs.
