Pfizer has said that people will most likely need a third vaccine shot within 12 months. Pfizer is one of the companies that has created a Covid-19 vaccine. This third shot will be needed because the protection against the vaccine will go down after time. It may even be possible that a new shot will be needed every year to keep the protection. Pfizer has said that its vaccine is 91% effective in preventing the coronavirus, and 95% effective in preventing severe disease and hospitalization.
Even though Pfizer used more than 12,000 patients as a test, some people say more data is needed to know if the protection stays after six months. Moderna’s vaccine has similar data. It is still unknown on how well the vaccines protect against new types of the coronavirus.
