Phillies lose series to Rockies

The Philadelphia Phillies played a 3-game weekend series against the Colorado Rockies in Denver, Colorado. Philly lost the series, 2 games to 1. The first game of the series was a 5-4 loss on Friday in which Phillies closing pitcher Hector Neris, who is known for blowing saves, gave up a walk-off home run (game-winning home run for the home team) to Rockies left fielder Raimel Tapia in the 9th inning.

The Phillies rebounded in a major way by putting star pitcher Aaron Nola on the mound as he didn’t look great pitching, but got a hit, and Rhys Hoskins had a 2-homer night as they won 7-5.

The Phillies looked awful in the series finale on Sunday. Well, everyone except Bryce Harper, who had a 2-home run game and threw out Rox first baseman C.J. Cron at home plate in the 2nd inning. The rest of the team looked great….up until the 4th inning. The Rockies scored 7 runs in the inning, including a grand slam by shortstop Trevor Story to go up 7-2. Phillies reliever Bailey Falter made his MLB debut in the 8th and, despite giving up a homer to Cron, did pretty well. But it was way too little, too late. Colorado wound up wrecking the Phillies, 12-2.

The Phillies began a 4-game  series against the St. Louis Cardinals in St. Louis, Missouri onMonday at 7:45 Eastern.
