President Trump’s second impeachment

On January 13, President Trump got impeached by the House of Representatives. This makes the president the first person to be impeached twice. The reason behind this impeachment is that President Trump encouraged rioters to attack the Capitol building in Washington D.C recently. Before deciding to impeach the president, the House asked Vice President Mike Pence to use the 25th amendment to remove the president. The 25th amendment is an amendment that explains how a vice president can remove a president from office.

After Vice President Pence refused to remove President Trump, the House took a vote to impeach the president. The vote ended up as 232 – 197 which impeached President Trump. Before the president can actually be removed from office, the US senate will have to vote to impeach President Trump. That is unlikely to happen because two thirds of the Senate would have to vote to impeach the president and the Democrats have only 50 percent of the seats in the Senate.
