Shohei Ohtani and Bryce Harper Win 2021 MLB MVPs

Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels and Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies won the 2021 American League and National League MVP awards, respectively. Ohtani had one of the greatest seasons in MLB history, logging 46 home runs, 100 runs batted in as a batter, and a 3.18 earned run average, 156 strikeouts and 44 walks as a pitcher and was a unanimous choice for AL MVP, the first unanimous choice since Harper in 2015. Harper had 35 home runs, 151 hits, 84 runs batted in, and a .309 batting average. My opinion is this: As a Phillies fan I’m thrilled about Harper winning, but also unsurprised. Harper had an incredible year, and he definitely deserved the award. And I’m happy he got it. Ohtani shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone either. We all could’ve predicted this in July. That’s how unbelievable Ohtani’s season was. Don’t forget he was a 2-way player. Here are the vote totals for the top 3 of each league.

National League results

Bryce Harper: 348 points (17 first-place votes, 9 second-place votes, 2 third-place votes)
Juan Soto: 274 points (6 first-place, 11 second-place, 7 third-place)
Fernando Tatis Jr.: 244 points (2 first-place, 5 second place, 15 third-place)

American League results

Shohei Ohtani: 420 points (30 first place votes)
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: 269 points (29 second place, 1 third place)
Marcus Semien: 232 points (24 third place, 4 fourth place, 2 fifth place)
