The deepest earthquake ever detected happened under Japan

Six years ago, under the coast of Japanese islands, an earthquake took place. There was a series of earthquakes, and the deepest took place 467 miles deep beneath the surface. That one was an aftershock, and was very weakThe first of the earthquakes was huge, with a magnitude of 7.9 and a depth of 423 miles. Earthquakes this deep are unusual, because the temperature and pressure are so high. They cause the rocks to bend instead of break at this level. The deepest earthquake is estimated to have taken place in the lower mantle of the earth. Other earthquakes are thought to have happened at this level, but scientists were unable to get their location. Scientists say there still needs to be more research to prove the earthquake actually happened, and that it actually struck in the lower mantle.
