About a month ago, the Suez Canal in Egypt was blocked by a huge ship, named the “Ever Given.” About a week after that, the ship was freed. Egypt is demanding $900 million in payment from the ship’s owners because of the blockage. One of Egypt’s courts allowed the country to keep the Ever Given, until they get paid the money demanded. It is thought that Egypt lost about $1 billion during the blockage. The reason Egypt lost money is because of the huge expenses of freeing the 400 meter ship. The country also lost money because they missed out on lots of transit fees from other ships. When the ship got stuck, it had $3.5 billion worth of things on it. During this horrible experience, there were many items caught up, like animals and consumer goods. The owners of the ship have apologized about the blockage.
