The SAT is getting a big change

The SAT is getting a big change. It will become digital by 2024, and the time will be reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours. The college board is making this change, and they said this change is meant to adapt with educators and students’ evolving needs. The SAT is an exam that most high schoolers take so they can put it on their college resume.

In November of 2021, the college board tried out a digital SAT, and students and educators both liked it better than the on paper test. The college board has been facing a lot of pressure to change the test recently, as people are now questioning whether the test is still relevant and whether the test is fair. For example, Black and Hispanic students, and students from poor households, generally do worse on the test. One reason is richer families can afford to send their child to SAT prep courses, which can be very expensive.

Many colleges have been making the SAT optional recently, since it is not that relevant anymore, and one of the biggest colleges that made it optional is, surprisingly, Harvard University, one of the best colleges in the US and even in the world. The essay section and the subject tests have both been removed by the college board already.
