The switch back to Standard time is happening this Sunday – and experts want to make it permanent

The switch to Standard time is happening this Friday, and experts want to make it permanent. Every year in March, the switch to Daylight savings time happens, and that means all clocks move forward 1 hour. The point of this is to “save” daylight in the Spring and Summer, when it usually gets darker later. For example, during some day in this March-November time period, if it would get dark at 7 PM standard time, it would get dark at 8 PM Daylight Savings time. Many experts do not like this change, as they say the switch between the times can lead to “upticks in heart problems, mood disorders, and motor vehicle collisions.”

All humans and mammals have a 24 hour internal cycle, which helps control sleep, mood, and appetite. When the time transitions to Daylight Savings Time, there are darker mornings and brighter evenings, which could cause the body to feel more tired in the morning, and awake and alert in the evening. That can lead to sleep loss, which is not a great thing to happen.

Fun Fact:

Not all US states practice Daylight Savings, as Hawaii and most of Arizona don’t follow it. Other states such as Florida are attempting to get the entire country to follow it though.
