The US accused China formally of hacking Microsoft’s email systems, which are used by lots of the biggest governments and companies around the world. The US, and many of its allies, including NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) have condemned Beijing, China’s capital, for these cyberattacks. The US says China paid criminal groups to hack systems all around the world, costing millions of dollars. It is very unusual for NATO and the European Union to condemn China, because China is a big trading partner for them. Even though China has been condemned, there have been no sanctions placed on China. Sanctions are economic barriers put on countries.
