US will remove its troops from Afghanistan

On Wednesday, April 14, President Joe Biden announced that all US troops will be removed from Afghanistan by September 11. The US has had troops in Afghanistan for 20 years! There have been 4 presidents that have been in office when US troops were in the country, including Biden. 2 of the presidents were Democratic, and 2 of them were Republican. It has been 20 years since the 9/11 attack happened on the twin towers. This attack incentivised the US to send troops to the country. During the US activity in Afghanistan, 2,300 US soldiers died.

Before announcing this decision, Biden asked many organizations and leaders including former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush for advice. Even though US soldiers are being withdrawn, the US will still still support Afghanistan’s government against the Taliban with assistance and aid. The Taliban is the group that was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. The Afghanistan government and the Taliban are at war currently. There are 2,500 American troops in Afghanistan now.
